My Testimony of Leaving Islam

I had loads of little reasons for leaving Islam about three years ago.

I used to do the old ablution thing and pray five times a day, but in the end I just couldn't be bothered. I mean, you have to wash AND pray! Effort! It didn't do any good anyway. I learned that you can't just plead with God to make everything all right. If you want something, you have to work for it yourself, you can't expect God to snap His fingers and make it so just because you ask him to. Also, I couldn't be bothered to spend time and effort making sure I ate and drank all the right stuff like halal meat, no processed food, no liquor, etc. I mean, I'm a busy bloke, I want to come home after work and stick a lasagna in the microwave without having to make sure the cow had its throat cut in just the right way!

Oh yeah, and I don't want to have to grow a full beard either. And I don't want to give 10% of my income to charity either. And sometimes I have to shake hands with a woman, but I wasn’t allowed to under Islam. Also, Muslims aren't allowed to curse and I like to curse. I'm also pretty hedonistic and I like to drink and party and flirt with girls, which again I couldn't do while I was following Islam. And there was so much emphasis on being righteous and doing things out of the love/fear of God and following the Prophet's example, but I'm also a pretty selfish bloke and I do things because I want to, not because they're righteous. That's also the reason why I haven't subscribed to any religion since leaving Islam.

I want to be free to enjoy myself and just live. Life's too short to be constrained by religion.
