Testimony of Leaving Islam

I was born Christian and my family are very strong Christians. I grew up in Moscow, Russia.

When I was 17 they sent me to study in the UK. I met many Muslims back in Russia but our Muslims are not like those ones in west, they all go out, drink and socialize, majority of girls don't wear hijab and people rarely pray.

In UK I met much more Muslims and I got interested in Islam. I got many Muslim friends and I would come to the Muslim center often and I would eat with them, most of them wouldn't mind me being there but there were a few guys who were persuading me to convert.

In my University I met a girl from Iraq (a shiite Muslim girl and her father was very devoted Muslim, in fact he used to read lectures in their mosque). We fell for each other and started seeing each other even though it was haram (a sin) according to Muslim beliefs. She had to lie when she was coming over to me and we couldn't act as a couple in university even or wherever we saw Muslims.

It was funny as we both were trying to convert each other in our faiths, but as she was more determined and she succeeded. I read the Quran and watched many videos, and after thinking about it for several months I decided to convert (my mind was not thinking straight as I was a teenager in love). I learned how to pray and prayed 5 times a day and I fasted for Ramadan.

She was very happy and so was I, but that happiness didn't last for long time. I started noticing the other side of Islam. I didn't like what Muslims thought about non-Muslims, about violence and in particular a few verses that were violent in the Quran. The stories of Muhammad's marriage to young Aisha and the amount of people he killed, or ordered to kill did not come out of my mind. My new Muslim 'brothers' started talking about how shaheeds (martyrs) and mujahideen are good people and how all the Muslims are good and I could not agree with that. I decided to leave Islam and I have lost my Muslim 'friends' and girlfriend but I found a new one and I'm more than happy in what I believe now. I am doubting everything and all the religions. I still believe in God but not in any of the religions.
