Testimony of Leaving Islam

I left Islam at the youthful age of 16. This was because at the age of about 13 I was in a mosque, as usual I was with my younger brother and father, we would always pray the morning prayers, then me and my brother would go to school and my father to his workplace. But on that specific day, I sat in the mosque and whilst knelt in prayer I asked myself a question, "why do I keep banging my head on the floor, what on earth is its purpose, what benefits does it hold?", and immediately I decided to logically come to a conclusion. It had no purpose, well for the physical world anyways, because I still believed in a spiritual world.

At the age of 14, I began examining the big bang theory, and the theory of evolution in more detail. From this I deduced that there was no Adam and Eve, and that if there was a big bang, God did it. I then confronted my father and told him to explain everything. I remember perfectly what I said, as this was the biggest turning point in my life. The questions I asked were as follows:

"Dad, why are we here? Well, okay, Satan and God did whatever they did, but why did God create Satan, wasn't Satan's goal to take mankind to hell? He kinda wins then doesn't he? Why would God create someone, make a bet with them, and lose? God seems pretty dumb to me." My father got incredibly angry, but then I asked again, "Why would God send down stupid commandments into Islam? An example is that people aren't allowed to style their hair (Bukhari 7:803). Why on earth would God do that dad? Why is he trying to control us?." My father couldn't reply. He got more angry, shouted at me and then we didn't talk for around 3 months.

For a while I read over the years more and more into science and mathematics, and I was in awe every time I came across new and beautiful concepts, much more beautiful than religion. Finally at the age of 16 I declared myself an atheist. However I have yet to inform my family, as I fear that if it spreads to my community, there may be violence against me. But the same is not true for many other young atheists. The UK is a wonderful place, and I plan on serving this nation till I die.
