Testimony of Leaving Islam
I left Islam as it has subtly ripped my personality away from me over the last 5 years. Now that I can reflect back, I cannot believe how I got taken in by such ridiculous rituals and beliefs.
Islam is very clever, but utterly wrong. Using fear and uncertainty about life and your mortality, it seeps into every sphere of your life until one day you are waking up at 3 in the morning and bending down towards a large stone in Mecca. An 'entire' system of life with one billion ready made 'brothers' and 'sisters' can be enticing but believe me this will never compare to the self respect and dignity that you will have when you stop allowing Islam to control you.
Islam revels in black and white issues and refuses to be criticized or questioned. Wander along to your local mosque and ask some tricky questions and I bet you'll hit a brick wall of silence and suspicion. 'When was the Quran written down for the first time in its entirety and who compiled it?' 'Why could Mohammed marry as many wives as he wished?' 'Why is the Quran such a jumbled mess of confusing verses?' But of course you are not learned enough to question these things as your knowledge of hadith and sunna are inadequate and clearly you need to go to medina for 15 years of studying and beard growing before you even begin to understand the completeness and beauty of Islam - please! Pull the other one.
If you are a Muslim then please reflect upon the fact that you must believe in the following:
- death for adulterers by stoning
- jinn (unseen fire creatures based on Arabic folklore!)
- chopping off of hand for thieves
- death for me as an apostate
If you feel uncomfortable or uneasy with any of these things, then congratulations; you have overcome superstition with humanity and common sense. Now it's up to you. You can either bend down and kiss the carpet a thousand times in the next few weeks to rid yourself of shaytaan or you can accept the truth. Islam is a complex system of brainwashing, rituals and ideas designed and modified over time to propagate the vision of one man, Mohammed. Maybe he was mad or perhaps he was just insanely clever and good at mind control. Who knows; it doesn't matter. Just enjoy your undisturbed sleep (sleep is better than prayer believe me!) To all of those who have stood up against Islam despite death threats and loss of family and friends, I thank you. Thanks to your bravery we can only hope that over time Islam loses its fundamentalist streak until eventually nobody takes its seriously.
