The Online Quran Project (OQP) (sometimes spelled as Online Qur’an Project/Online Qur’ān Project) is a Qur’anic project launched in late 2007, aiming to provide an online, multilingual searchable Qur’an text with worldwide translations. The site is translated into several languages, as it is used by Muslims and non-Muslims worldwide. The Online Quran Project is the first website to offer a Qur’an text with full diacritics (tajweed) rules.

History

The Online Qur’an Project originated 2007, when co-founder Iman Mohammad Kashi was looking for different Qur'an translation online. With access to limited number of translation online, he first started to undergo a project to collect and distribute different translation. After some time he decided to make his work public and Kashi, along with co-founder Uwe Hideki Matzen, founded the Online Quran Project in November 2007. Some year after the release of the first version a major updated was added, to supply the growing demand and features request. Mid 2008 the project had collected and distributed more than 100 translation in over 20 different languages. In late April 2010 the project was released in its second version that supported notes and comments (tafsir) to a wide range of translations. In February 2008 the Ahmadiyya movement in Denmark was requested to make the first full Danish Qur’an[1] translation public available. The Sunni Imam Abdul Wahid Reino Arild Pedersen was in June 2008 consulted about the project and made some suggestions. The Al-Furqaan Foundation[2] and Tahrike Tarsile Qur’an[3], Inc. was also contacted in hope of contributing translation with commentaries. In March 2009 the Spanish Qur’an translator, Raúl González Bórnez, granted permission to include the first translation with commentaries – this translation was made available by the Ministry of foreign affairs, Islamic Republic of Iran[4]. September same year, Edip Yuksel,[5] the translator of ‘Quran - A Reformist Translation’ also made the translation with commentaries available for the Online Quran Project.[6] As of May 2010 the project site is restoring the original translation with commentaries by the well-known English Qur’an translator Abdullah Yusuf Ali.[7] Online websites,[8][9] resources pages,[10][11] and academic sites[12] and books[13] are in growing numbers referring to the Online Quran Project.

  • Superscript alifs [dagger alif] (like in عَلىٰ),
