Testimony of Leaving Islam
I'd like to say at the start, I hope that I am not insulting any members who have been lifelong Muslims, and gone through things I cannot imagine.
Briefly: I 'reverted' while in high school, and started seriously trying to practice my religion after graduation from school. Now, still in college, and I have left. (I actually read more Quran/Hadith/etc as an Apostate.)
Why I left: (personal reasons)
- I sat in a car, listening to 'brothers' explain to me that the death penalty is valid in cases of apostasy.
- Hearing news of an infant death in my family, I talked with my 'brothers', and one said quite happily: "Mash'allah, she is in paradise now."
- A'isha. Having family in that young age group, I still cringe to think what happens in some countries, and what 'the most honorable of men' supported.
Why I left: (educational reasons)
- I read the Quran.
- I could not grasp, how the Omnimax god-of-all, would need to 'gloat' so much (All-knowing, loving, merciful, powerful, knows all, not unaware of what you do)
- I found the absolute disdain for others of 'translations' from "Holy classical Arabic" into Human-Language.
- As a side note, when I tried to dive into Classical Arabic, I found some papers on "the unreadability of Quran". Some say ONE FIFTH is unintelligible!
- I read a lot of Hadith. (Especially accounts of The Blind Jew, the Blind man meeting with Muhammad, etc)
- I read of the Yemeni Quran, and the Sirat Rasool Allah (which I am currently reading, due to the site's kindness to place it online) among other attempts at "the historical Muhammad/Quran". This fascinates me.
I hope I have not bothered the readers of the forum with my lowly testimony, and hope now that I am free of this faith, to help others to leave Surat-al-Mustaqeem (The Straight Path). If I need provide any details or further explanation, please let me know.
