Article for Women

Women_in_Islam_-_From_Islam's_Sources is the only article I think that comes close to a general Islam/women overview (which is not a core article). It was just linked from this blog [1]. Should it be added to the translation list? It should be edited first though e.g. "In the same volume (page 89), Ibn Timiyya says boastfully", we would get rid of that last word. There are probably many other changes that could be made. I can add it to the "to do" list to clean up this article and make it suitable for translation. It used to be a personal essay (by Joe I believe) but now its in mainspace so we can edit. In any case a general Women article would be nice to add to the translation list. --Axius (talk | contribs) 09:16, 16 October 2014 (PDT)

If my memory is correct, I don't think that ever was marked as an essay, but having a quick look at it, it would probably be more suited as one. It should definitely be added to the "to do" for a clean up (as you noted, even little changes like that one word, make a world of difference). But I don't think it is suitable to be added to the list of recommended translations. The recommended translations aren't there for completeness in any sense, but are there to create a good first-impression on non-English readers and a showcase for the quality the site aims for.
Thinking about it, having the more general articles translated could have a very negative effect. For example, I remember the "Top 10 controversial verses" was on this list a while ago (an article that is not very well written at all). I think this has also been translated into a few languages. However, since none of the other more indepth articles on each verse has been translated, it can be easily "debunked". So anyone who doesn't read English would think our arguments on that page are weak (because they're bound to have read the many counter-arguments by Muslims that are not covered on that page). --Sahab (talk) 18:35, 17 October 2014 (PDT)
"If my memory is correct, I don't think that ever was marked as an essay, but having a quick look at it, it would probably be more suited as one." - oh ok, yea. That sounds good because its tone probably has to be revised. The changes can be good additions to the style guide. Yea I guess this article is far from being a translation candidate. It would need a lot of work to be good quality and also stand alone (have some kind of short summaries of "responses to apologetics" for example). --Axius (talk | contribs) 17:08, 19 October 2014 (PDT)
Cool. I'll add an essay tag now. --Sahab (talk) 22:01, 19 October 2014 (PDT)
